Chalki Island
 

Chalki is one of the smallest and most beautiful islands in the Dodecanese. It lies west of the island of Rhodes and it is 35 nautical miles away from the central port of the island and 11 nautical miles away from Kamiros Skala. The capital of the island is called Chalki or Nimporio is quite picturesque as it stretches amphitheatrically with its traditional houses having a red-tiled roof on top.

The island covers a surface of 28 sq.km. and the coastline is 34km. long.Chalki is a mountainous, rocky island surrounded by wonderful clean beaches like Ftenaghia, Pontamos, Kania, Yali, Aretta and others either sandy or pebbled approachable by boat.

Chalki has been declared 'Island of Peace and Friendship for the young people around the world and welcomes a lot of visitors every year. The local festivals that are held on the island especially in the summer and those which are of religious character in particular, create a warm and merry atmosphere. The most famous and brightest are Panaghia of Chorio that celebrates on 15th August, St.Nicholas at Nimporio and last but not least the festival of St.John Alarga on 29th August, the biggest of all.

Traffic flow takes place on the main road of the island especially during the arrivals and departures of the liners. There is a minibus that runs regularly during the day going to the various beaches, as well as a taxi.
